Lannan Writer in Residence Kareen Abu-Zeid reads at the Marfa Book Company on Saturday, July 12th at 6 pm.

Half-American and half-Egyptian by blood, Kareem James Abu-Zeid was born in Kuwait in 1981. He grew up around the Middle East before living in France, Germany, and New Jersey, but now calls Northern California home. His dissertation focuses on the work of the modern Syrian-Lebanese poet and cultural critic Adonis (Ali Ahmad Saïd), and situates Adonis’ poetry at the intersection of Arabic and Islamic poetic and intellectual currents on the one hand, and French and German currents on the other (in particular, 19th and 20th century French and German poetry and philosophy).
