James Benning: Thirty-one Friends

James Benning will be presenting thirty-one unique works and a new publication, "Thirty-one Friends (October)".

Benning is known for his work in "observational cinema" as well as for his more recent object-based practice. The latter includes faithful reconstructions of the Henry David Thoreau and Ted Kaczynski cabins and careful reproductions of works by Henry Darger, Andy Warhol, Bill Traylor, and many other "outsider" artists, which he has exhibited within the same cabins and elsewhere. Among his many wonderful film and video works are "RR", "Deseret", "The California Trilogy (which includes El Valley Centro, Los, and Sogobi)", "13 Lakes", "Temple Pass," and "Ten Skies."
