The Marfa Book Company, founded in 1999, provides an alternative
place to browse, meet friends and relax. Special features
include the art gallery and the extensive collection of art
and architecture books. Our clientele is diverse — tourists,
ranchers, artists, writers, students and the local labor
force — all seeking the same relaxed literary atmosphere. We cater to people
needing tourist information. We are also a gathering place
for book signings, readings and gallery events.
With an affinity towards the arts, the owners centered the
store on this theme. The Art section is divided into
Architecture, Interior Design, Photography, Individual
Artists, Art Theory and History, Film, Graphic Design,
Latin, and Folk Art.
The Contemporary Fiction and Literature section contains a
selection of noted works from the past such as Chekov and
George Eliot. Further, the store showcases younger and
lesser-known contemporary writers and poets. Readings are
frequently given by writers in residence of The Lannan
Foundation, a literary residency program that allows working
writers and poets to temporarily reside in Marfa.
Frequently, these accomplished writers give readings of
their work at the bookstore, including past readings by Victoria Glendinning, Linh Dinh, Jean
Valentine, Judy Tuwalestiwa, Denise Chavez, Stanley
Crawford, Dana Levin and Debra Eisenberg.
Other sections include cooking, gardening, biography,
history, religion, as well as an extensive
children's section.
We at Marfa Book Company look forward to serving your
literary needs. Please contact us at 432.729.3906 should you
have any further questions about our unique venture.
We are open 10-7 daily.
