Maria Lassnig, "Woman Power: NYC 68-80"

$40.00

A pivotal figure in Twentieth Century painting - this book documents Maria Lassnig’s life in New York City between 1968 and 1980. This was a period of great activity for the artist and coincides with her involvement with Women/Artists/ Filmmakers Inc, a nonprofit dedicated to experimental film, and the further development of “body awareness” paintings. An absolutely astonishing colorist, Lassnig’s work occupies a place between abstraction and figuration. This exhibition catalog features an essay, “A Mysterious Point of Certainty: Maria Lassnig’s Body-Awareness Painting” by Elisabeth Bronfen; a biographical essay, and is nicely illustrated. It’s a small catalog, but is well made.
