william cordova, "ankaylli: spatial and ideological terrain"

$25.00

“william cordova in Marfa, ankaylli: spatial and ideological terrain” documents the artist’s exhibition at Marfa Contemporary in 2017. The book is a good intro to cordova’s work, as it resembles his method of relating diverse cultural objects in the context of a single installation where viewers are encouraged to make and interrogate connections. For this work, the artist examined the recurrence of indigenous building forms (including the ziggurat) throughout Marfa and forms of cosmological modeling, such as the spiral, often associated with astronomical reference. The book features images from the exhibition and quotes and commentary from a wide variety of sources that inflect our understanding of the works pictured. There is also a good introduction by Kate Green, former director of Marfa Contemporary and current director of the El Paso Museum of Art.
